Clarksdale Collegiate
“We are thrilled to be part of the history of charter schools in Mississippi. We believe our school, along with the ones before and after us, will have a tremendous impact on education in Mississippi, especially in the Mississippi Delta.”
Founder and Executive Director Amanda Johnson
Clarksdale Collegiate is located in Clarksdale, Mississippi.
Clarksdale Collegiate received its charter from the Mississippi Charter School Authorizer Board in 2017 to serve students K-8. When the school opened, Clarksdale Collegiate started with students in K-2 (150 scholars) with a plan to add a grade each year until the school serves K-8 (675 scholars). They will begin to serve 7th graders in 2023.
Clarksdale Collegiate’s founder is Amanda Johnson, who continues to lead the organization as the Executive Director. According to the school’s philosophy, “…Every child in the Mississippi Delta deserves the opportunity to excel in high school and college and we are, therefore, unapologetically college preparatory. Scholars thrive in our structured, ambitious, and jubilant community that supports rigorous instruction in every classroom.”
Clarksdale Collegiate was the first rural public charter school in Mississippi. Johnson opened Clarksdale Collegiate after being a school founder and charter school principal in Arkansas. Her previous experience establishing a charter school makes her a unique charter school leader in Mississippi.
